Yesterday, I got a phone call from Kelly Reedy, an artist friend who lives in Singapore. She's going to be traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to visit with her son in university there. We talked about Barb's and my viewing of this George Rouault painting at the Montreal Musseum of Fine Art during our cross Canada drive. She plans to be in Montreal following her Vancouver visit. I thought I would share it with others of you who view this blog.
George Rouault, Circus, 1936, 70 x 107.8 cm
Rouault's knowledge and sensativity toward the beauty and structural foundation due to the interaction of color is typically evident. Matisse realized how to see color in nature far beyond his contemporaries and Rouault realized how to see color to establish a personal spiritual realm. In both patinters, their palletes were extraordinary. Roualt's paint application (stroke) is equally significant in producing such a breathtaking painting.
